the Berlin curatorial projects of photographers Lena Szankay and Saba Laudanna has just been published. Dubbed "Schautankstelle", it documents the activities of the photography gallery by that name both artists/curators managed from 1998 to 2001 on the premises of the RAW Temple e.V., an artist society already active in Berlin Friedrichshain way before it became a fashionable neighborhood (well, for some, and at some corners at least). The gallery was situated in a former gas station, called "Tankstelle" in German. (Near the "East Art Galllery"; the Berlin-Wall remains along the Eastern riverside)   In this typical Berlin post-wall underground art setting visitors could fill up their mind with interesting images and their belly with alcohol. The playful Schautankstelle web site is made by the hip Mexican
web design studio (are there any un-hip ones?) Lulaxion. It is very entertaining, like
any good art site should, but so few are.
