by dutch artist DJ Chantelle (a member of the Rotterdam
"Artoonisten"), who makes great
punky keramic sculptures and plates with surreal obscene imagery, we
have been busy making collages of found plates (mainly G.D.R. ones)
combined with computer generated imagery of our own making. Like DJ
Chantelle's, they are often sexual, and, in our case, designed to
have a vintage look, all scratchy and worn.
They turned out so neat that we found ourselves making some portrait
ones to put in the online shop of the
Maertini Broes (the Berlin electro
act). The idea is to adapt the portraits to the styles of "found
plates". The first blue & white set use the original standard G.D.R.
state-restaurant plates and are still in tune with the cool blue
coorperate identity designed for the Maertinis by
Twig, but further down stuff
gets out of hand..
