Berlin artist's journal. Self centeredness never looked so good.
About our journeys into Eastgerman and
Berlin subcultures, making & hustling art, organizing exhibitions,
club culture, electronica. Now with lots of useless time consuming extras.
August 5, Thursday: Terminator
inally have some pics and animation online of last weekend's art installation
we made for governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's 57th birtday-bash. It was ironically celebrated
by a local electronica/art nonprofit organisation called "Lebensfreude" (a good site for Berlin underground hedonism and activism by the way).
It took place in the vast catacombs of a former brewery in the center of
Berlin. The cellars were like 12 meter high and had churchlike arches with
stalagtites and stalagmites and probably lots of other stuff growing up there,
it looked like something in Rumania. There was a road leading right into the place so we drove the van right up to the
DJ's decks.
I'd made a totalitarian stars and stripes meets big brother
fantasy of Arnie, using huge simultaneous slide projections. But in the end
it turned out looking more stalinistic-biscuit-tin stylee than new-world-order-U.S. Suppose i can't escape my preferences.
Did meet a nice photographer, she cooperates with "Pixelshit".
(Label/project names with "shit" in them are all the rage at the moment in
Berlin). It's a site well worth visiting anyway, about graphic- and web design -i think.
File under: hedonism, visuals, art in ruins, temporary spaces.
